If you thought Halkidiki was only about turquoise beaches, Varvara Waterfalls (Kipouristra) will prove you wrong. Tucked away in a dense forest of alder, linden, and beech trees, these twin waterfalls create a landscape that feels more like a tropical jungle than a Mediterranean island. It is the ultimate Pure & Natural experience for those who love Adventure & Exploration.
The Journey and Access
The waterfalls are located near the border of the municipalities of Aristotelis and Volvi. The drive itself is a scenic route through the mountains of North Halkidiki. Once you reach the wooden signs, a well-maintained dirt path leads you down to the falls. It is a very Family Friendly trail, taking only about 10 minutes to reach the first waterfall.
There are two main waterfalls. The first one is visible from above via a wooden platform, while the second one requires a slightly more adventurous descent but rewards you with a magnificent view as the water crashes over the rocks into a shallow pool.
What to Do Nearby
Varvara Waterfalls are just one piece of the puzzle in this amazing region. You can easily combine your visit with:
- Olympiada: Head back to the coast (20 min drive) for some fresh mussels by the sea.
- Ancient Stageira: Explore the ruins of Aristotle’s birthplace on the Liotopi peninsula.
- Varvara Village: A traditional mountain village with stone houses and excellent local meat tavernas.
